JAWS INTERIORS was commissioned to deliver a one-off luxurious retreat at Pumphouse Point. Resonating with the immediate landscape, the interior fit-out consists of layers of materiality rich with textures and tones inspired by the lakeside setting. The retreat is a passionate space that is proud of its exclusive site, building a story through materiality and artisanal product design – connecting guests with the sense of place.
The clients brief emphasised the need for the retreat to be distinctly different from all other accommodation types found at the boutique hotel. The Retreat was sustainably pre-fabricated and transported to the site, built up with rich, warm and luxurious materials, taking transportable interiors to a high level.
Design takes inspiration from the surroundings, with moss, speckled rocks, bark and the unpredictability of the lake, the wilderness sets the tone of the interior language. Wallpaper, fabric, colours, furniture, handmade basins, and soft furnishings were all selected with nature in mind. Local artisans add depth and meaning to feature pieces which add to the story within this exclusive experience.
A sustainable project solution was achieved by using transportable prefabricated construction, using Tasmanian suppliers, materials and artisans. This reduced environmental impact and travel miles for all materials.
