The new joinery items for the Legislative Council Chamber were fitted and finalised in July, before the sitting of the new Council.
The new elements have met the design intentions of providing current technology support to the councillors in way that is not an intruding element when the whole Chamber is viewed.
The new joinery also needs to be removable once every four years when the Chamber is stripped out and rearranged for a joint sitting of both houses for the official opening of the new Parliament... and then all reassembled again!
Each pedestal unit incorporates support for a laptop computer or pad, a pull-out writing shelf, a light, microphone, power and data outlets and a USB charger socket.
New lighting throughout the Chamber incorporates new pendant lights, cornice uplighting and individual lights on the new joinery pedestals.. The lighting is now closer to a natural daylight giving less eye fatigue and better distribution for video recording.
The original 1865 red velvet couches have been reupholstered to provide a firmer more supportive ergonomic seating position.
