The design of this family home successfully negotiates the competing requirements of northerly solar access from behind and frontage to magnificent southerly views.
The house sits on top of Bellerive Hill, positioned to take in the expansive views of Kunanyi/ Mount Wellington and the River Derwent over the roofscape of Bellerive to the South below.
A landscaped path and entry stair lead down to the front door, with movement carefully choreographed to draw the occupants through the steep site, first denying, then revealing this amazing vista from the main living rooms on the upper level.
The building is broken down into a series of stepped cubic forms to break down the massing and allow daylight into each space.
Three bedrooms are accommodated on the upper level. These rooms step west to catch the sun and utilise the width of the site. Generous setbacks to the Eastern and Western neighbours have been provided, with limited windows on these elevations and landscaping helping to maintain privacy.
The lower level comprises an office, gym, rumpus room and service undercroft.
An upper level deck wrapping around the living rooms allows the owners to have a direct connection to outdoors. The deck is located on the North-Western side of the residence, taking advantage of beautiful views & benefiting from all day sunshine.
